Do ya know what I'm sick of?

Posted by Snow-Fox - January 28th, 2009

Mother fucking losers that pump up their score so that they can seem like their cartoons matter, or because they believe they're cartoons should have a better ranking than others. For example, someone's cartoon (I wont mention who) they had a pretty crappy animation, made last year, and it had a score of 4.22 or something....It wasn't funny, it wasnt drawn or animated well and it wasn't submitted on clock day. Only had 1000 views, and 300 votes, so from I gather, they got the 200 votes, got around a 3.8. but that wasnt good enough. 100, five votes would bring it up quite a bit.

Hell, in some small way I'm guilty of this too. I'm not pumping up the score of the collaboration I was in, but the score is rising for no apparent reason. It might be paranoia but I am sick of stupid people trying to prove that their cartoon is better than others, by some menial score that they made themselves happen.

When I released most of my cartoons I fucked up bad on many of my cartoons release dates. I would fix the problem and see how people would change their vote. No resubmitting as a result of my retardedness. Just a few weeks ago, I saw some jackass release a shitty intro of traced images, no prob just voted what I thought it was worth (2). The next day I come back to the portal, and the same submission is there again in the portal, no change, no alterations. Its the exact cartoon intro posted a day earlier. And do ya know what? people fell for it, and voted better on the cartoon. Slightly better, but still better.

This is why I hate when people waive around their petty Batting Average, saying that, that value shows how amazing they are. I usually check to see how "grand" these people are, and its so very obvious when they pump up their score. The sad part is, they will eventually regret pumping up their score because it stops them from growing as an artist or animator.

On a lighter note: Give a big congradulations to Oney for getting nominated for best cartoon ^^

it's just a number kiddo just a number

Oh my lord! Rtil did not make fun of me for being a Videogame-parody animator!...Now that's amazing ^^

It may be just a number but it gives feedback, and then if ya get a good score then it's kinda worth nothing (it's worth nothing anyway but ya know, personally?)

In my early years as a Newgrounder I was guilty of this. I thought my movies deserved more.
Now that I know that they really didn't, I voted those particular early submission back down to where they should be.
So now they have a fairly poor score (but earned legit) but with like over 400 votes.

I have gone to user pages of artists who only have like four submissions. All poor quality, with huge scores. I know thats because nobody checks their userpage but them, so they are free to vote it up.

I agree, it is rather frustrating when you work hard for that 4.10+ and someone can just makes any of their movies that over time :(

the voting system has always ALWAYS been exploitable

and theres no way to fix it

welcome to the internet

I just vote 5 on my most recent 4 flashes and 5 on my top favorite flash everyday. That's how I deposit. Depending on how I'm feeling I may go to the portal and save or blam stuff, and I check the front page often.

I kinda feel bad for pumping up the score so much on some of my less popular games, but yeah. It's convenient.

No matter how high or how low their score is, it won't change a thing about their ability to animate, or how good the movie is.

The only thing that happens is them being pretentious, attention seeking, ego growing losers. They do not benefit at all from a higher score, it only gets to them in ways they hardly notice themselves.

In the end, it only affects them and not me, so I don't care.

that'll pass

meh the BA means nothing when it comes to quality because only people on the BBS care about BA for collabs and shit like that, and im sure if people wanna start a collab people will look at their BA and see what animation is so great and see that its just a duck that bobs its head in and out the water...god i hate how that got front page...

yeah i agree...but all animators are guilty of this usually when we are starting out...lets admit it, we thought we were the best shit since sliced bread...so we had our animations voted up...its just instinct...but as we mature in life and as animators we begin to realize that obviously people are going to vote fairly on your animations...i dont even vote on my own animations anymore...there will always be people like that here, so i expect to see this posted once a week...lol but seriously...its just how 12 year olds are...

im not guilty of it cause i dont get angry/happy/frusterated by numbers.

You should find pieces successful on your own terms not based on some numbers polled from 12 yr olds.

If I were to base how successful any of my cartoons, they would let me down. Not because they're that bad, but because I will always find flaws in my work XD

I agree I've seen your flashes, and those scores are way too high

awww mindchamber, wheres the love?

My scores have been doped with drugs. They are way too high. I would expect 3.5 or so at max, but even still pretty much most of my score go over 4.

Frikkin' annoying.

I agree

I know, there are some true lords of therepetitive self-vote in this site... but who cares? nobody watchs their shit anyway : D

http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view /445908

this is a good example of the gracious benefits voting for yourself can do!

One good thing about this though, is it will only ever affect batting average at the most.
Since you can only vote 5 once a day, they will never achieve any sort of award in that fashion.
And it won't make them any more popular in the community.

But, it will make them have the slightest boost in self esteem! Good for them...

Well maybe they're sick of shape flashes and other crap getting noticed while their high quality work is passed off as useless by those who don't play it.

I'm talking about those new artists who submit quality pieces and they get good reviews and all, but then shit like shape flashes and that duck thing get front page and they are left in the corner, sad and neglected.

i do that but it's only because i think it deserves more. also, i do that for a few days and then forget about it.
